Chain for a saw - modern designs, marking features, nuances of replacement and sharpening (75 photos)

Almost any owner of a residential private house or garden has a tool for cutting wood: a jigsaw, a saw, or a powerful electric saw that works with fuel. Undoubtedly, any of the listed equipment will require a certain skill and work skill. If you own an electric tool, you need basic knowledge of the characteristics of the circuits, how to replace them and competent sharpening.

The power saw is an ideal ergonomic tool for regular home repair work: erecting a fence, repairing a barn, sawing logs. Due to the compact design, it is convenient to use it both indoors and on the site itself, for which only an electric power source is required.

Unlike gasoline options, you do not need to spend money on fuel, and the accuracy will be at the highest level.

The only drawback is the necessary interval for sawing wood, that is, the saw is in working order for forty seconds, and then rests for twenty seconds.

Choosing a chain for a saw

The photo of the chain for the saw shows an old well-worn model that was actively used. Such a part must either be sharpened or completely replaced with a new one, since in importance it stands in one place with the engine.

Before choosing a chain for a saw, it is recommended to consider the following nuances:

  • the type of chain directly depends on the purpose of its use. So, when demanding the greatest power of the tool, it is better to take the option with a step of 3/8 inch, and lower loads allow 0.325 inches. In this case, you can not take into account the volume of the cylinder;
  • when replacing any spare part, it is better to take products from the same manufacturer in order to avoid incompatibility as a whole;
  • look at the angle of sharpening, which affects the care, replacement and future work process. With large volumes of work, it is reasonable to take an angle of 30 degrees. But more complex wood processing will require sharpening the chain with an indicator of 10 degrees;
  • the size of the product must correspond to the size of the tires. But, despite the correct selection of length, during use it can stretch, which is eliminated by removing several links.

Of course, experts recommend taking into account the quality of the material and the way it is processed.

Teeth and their sizes

An important element of the modern chain are teeth, which have distinctive features, which must also be considered when buying. Any detail of the tooth bears an individual name.

The tilt of the blade from the end and the sliding surface connect the rake angle, which has a maximum value of 85 degrees. Correct it should be when working on sharpening the chain. Moreover, absolutely every detail, its parameters are directly responsible for the cutting action of the electric saw.

It is not possible to adjust the angle of inclination independently; special standard norms have been created for these purposes, which should be strictly observed.

The back corner, the most important, measures between 50 and 60 degrees.

Home circuit replacement

Any manufacturer allows the replacement of the chain with their own hands, besides they also apply the exact instructions for independent replacement or repair of equipment.

The first step, that is, before pulling the chain onto the saw, is to acquire a new part.

Perhaps the most popular and relatively cheap option is a side tension saw. To replace the circuit, you need to perform several actions:

  • Move the protection shield, while lowering the brake.
  • Turn the control tension screw using a screwdriver, then unscrew the nut, loosening the tension.
  • Remove the cover.
  • Separate the tire and sprocket.
  • Remove the used chain, replacing it with a new one.
  • Then, return all parts in the exact order to their places.

Note that it is necessary to tighten the chain with smooth movements, that is, do not make rough jerks. By closing the plastic cover, you can fully tighten the chain with the screw and nut. More branded designs require the presence of wing nuts for quick tension, which provokes a faster replacement.

Sharpen the chain of an electric saw

Undoubtedly, the quality of equipment’s work decreases significantly over time, since wood is not the softest raw material, and the cutting surface tends to gradually decrease its working capacity. During untreated teeth completely lose their initial shape and they will have to be completely replaced, which will require the greatest financial costs.

It is worth considering that the condition of the teeth requires constant monitoring, since there is no specific time for damage to parts. A dull part can be easily identified by the quality and size of the chips.

Dull saw teeth produce very fine and dark dust from wood. Therefore, it is necessary to immediately examine the state of the working tool. Sharp elements suggest the absence of chips, violation of integrity and changes in the appearance of the cutting edge.

Of course, you can turn to a professional saw sharpener, who will do the job without a doubt better. But, a more budgetary option would be self-processing with special tools.

Most masters use files for these purposes, but this requires a special set:

  • flat file, correcting depth limit;
  • a frame that defines the angle;
  • circular part with landmark stripes;
  • caliber.

As a rule, the chain is inserted into the tire, fixed in a vice, the appropriate file is selected, which fits the diameter of the teeth. It is necessary to notice the first tooth in order to avoid a repeated grinding circle.

The master makes precise rhythmic movements in one direction. The gauge is applied to the edge end to the restrictive part. At the end, it is necessary to check the quality of the tool by making a control incision.

To prolong the life of the tool, do not use it on materials other than wood surfaces! Why you should monitor the absence of third-party metal objects in the wood (nail, bolt, staples). Regular chain lubrication and checking the unit for overheating is recommended.

It is better to use high supports when working with the tool, in order to avoid contact of the tire with the soil. It is necessary to strictly observe the intervals of the operating mode of the equipment. By following these simple rules, you can significantly extend the life of the electric "assistant"!
