Wooden canopy - instructions for building and installing with your own hands (85 photo ideas)

Probably everyone who has his own house has a canopy. Awnings come in many forms, and even the forms depend only on the imagination of the owner. Making a canopy can be ordered from professional builders, or you can make a canopy with your own hands.

Varieties of Canopies

Types of canopies are different and divide them either by location, or by shape or by the materials from which they are made.

The shape of the canopy depends on the builder’s imagination and needs. Straight, bent or inclined - you can choose any, the main thing is to be beautiful and functional.

Let's look at the canopy situation with an example. We are the owners of the house near the city and decided to equip the territory. The canopy can be built from various materials, whether it is brick, wood, polycarbonate or mixed.

We decided to make a wooden canopy for the suburban house. It can be built from any tree, but pine will do the job best. The timber from it is not expensive, but it will serve much longer than other breeds.

So we bought materials and thought about the shape of the canopy. There are a lot of photos of a wooden canopy on the Internet, you can choose several types and compose your own according to an individual plan. We draw a plan on paper and proceed to its implementation.

First, we must prepare the wells for the installation of poles. The installation depth should not be less than 500 mm, but you do not need to dig deeper either, as the height of the building will decrease. Before installing the poles, they will need to be treated from moisture and other negative factors.

Strengthen the columns can be cement mortar or gravel, but it is better to combine. The distance between the posts is about a meter. When installing, you need to check the diagonals and levels so that our design does not warp or curve. When the pillars are installed, you need to give the mixture time to consolidate.

It is best to do this work in the summer so that there is no excessive moisture in the soil. Stay away from the septic tank so that there are no unpleasant odors and watch for the lack of underground utilities.

If we are building an attached canopy to the house from wood, then poles should be placed only on three sides. Rafters from the pillars will go to the wall of the house, where they will be attached. If there are already special brick inserts in the wall of the house, then we are very lucky and we will be able to put the rafters on them.

If there are no inserts, then we attach the rafters to the wall of the house with metal corners, preferably on all four sides for strength. Do not forget to make a slight bias so that during the rain the water would slide off the canopy, and not remain on its roof.

After completing the roof lathing, select the material to cover. The most budgetary is polycarbonate, but can be covered with tiles and slate. The advantage of polycarbonate is its lightness and budget price. To fasten it to the crate with screws with sweat.

Do not forget that the edges should go less than 15 centimeters from our posts. Our draft canopy is ready. Now proceed to the finishing.

Fine finish

By finishing we mean the floor and the functional load of the canopy. You can do nothing with the floor and leave an earthen option. If you live there only in the summer, then you really do not really need it.

But what if the canopy you have is involved year-round? To do this, we make a small sill along the entire perimeter of the canopy, except for the wall of the house. It does not need to be made too small or too large, the optimal height is 7-10 cm. This is to prevent water, snow or earth from getting there.

The simplest and fastest is a concrete floor.Crushed stone is poured and poured with sand concrete, this can be finished. In the future, you can lay tiles on top of such a floor. Some make the floor of a edged board, but it must be treated with various mixtures, so that it lasts longer.

If you carry out some kind of fire-related work under a canopy, you won’t find anything better than concrete. Paving slabs are also considered, but you also need to make the right pillow for them. Otherwise, in the spring, swelling or failure is possible.

The functional load of the canopy may be different. Here you can arrange a gazebo, an open veranda, a summer kitchen, carpentry, or just store tools and work clothes. But for tools and work clothes it is better to use a barn to get aesthetic pleasure. But it is possible to make a carport.

Car parking

The shape of the canopy must be appropriate. When building with such functionalities, one of the parties should call in a car and therefore the width between the posts should be appropriate. It is better to make the floor either concrete or from paving slabs, although you can just asphalt. Again, it all depends on your imagination and financial resources.

Under such a canopy, the car will get less dirty from precipitation and you can always get dry to the house, but that is if it is attached to the house.

Many make a canopy near the gate to increase the usable area of the site. Here, too, there are many of its nuances, and before construction it is better to talk with neighbors so that there are no conflicts in the future.

entrance to the house

Typically, a canopy above the porch is done solely for comfort. It can also be built of wood and pillars, or it can be metal and simply attached to the wall of the house.

In some cases, a budget option is a polycarbonate sheet attached with several bars to the wall. But such a canopy is not durable and with strong gusts of wind can be broken.

Usually, a canopy is built along with steps and often turns into a porch of a house.

Summary

A canopy is a necessary and irreplaceable thing in a personal home. Here it is possible to carry out work that is not recommended to be done inside the house. In addition to helping with the household, it has an aesthetic function and will delight not only your eyes, but also the envious glances of neighbors and guests.

You can build a canopy so that it works for you all year round. This will require a bit of construction skills. Here you can make either opening shutters or shields, which, depending on the season, can be removed or put in a canopy.

What else can wooden canopies like? The answer is simple. You can make a thread. Thread patterns also depend on your imagination and skill. No wonder all the Russian huts made a porch rugged. The picture here can be functional or just add a twist to your estate.

Some craftsmen use various driftwood, which serve as pillars, as building materials. Here we are faced with the time and financial complexity of processing such material, but the work will exceed all your expectations.

Some canopies are so extraordinary that in some countries they become community centers and they are specially built by the government.

On your personal garden you can decorate with fruit trees present. The main thing is not to destroy the tree. The canopy can be decorated with various climbing plants such as vines.

Do not forget about bringing electricity into the canopy. In accordance with the functional load there should be lighting and several outlets. Fire safety is above all, so it is advisable to protect the sockets from the effects of the weather and make a separate box with plugs for the canopy.

Do not forget, the main thing is to correctly measure your desires and opportunities. As the saying goes: measure seven times - cut once.
