Choosing a varnish coating for wood

After laying the parquet on the floor, its surface must be varnished. But here the question arises: which remedy is best suited? We will understand this now.

Types of varnishes

Before going to the store for a purchase, you need to understand what types of products today are on the shelves of the store:

  • solvent based composition;
  • composition based on water.

The first types of varnishes - this is the last century. No, they protect perfectly, but after applying them, many residents began to have an allergy.

Water-based wood varnish has two varieties: an acrylate product and a polyurethane. The second type can withstand almost all the effects of negative factors, except for alcohol.

If you accidentally spill alcohol on it, then a stain will immediately form on its surface. Only one drawback of such a coating is the composition. As you know, polyurethane is a chemistry that can harm parquet.

For the manufacture of the first tools used acrylic resins. Their advantages are naturalness, safety and excellent protection. That is why such funds can be used to cover the floor, even when there is an animal in the house.

Choosing the right composition

Currently, store shelves contain a huge range of products. Because of this amount, it’s sometimes very difficult to get the right one for you. The advantage is given to products with the latest compositions. But no one forbids you to choose the usual composition based on water. But first, you need to create a protective coating of the material with a primer layer. This is easy to do if you use the following instructions:

Sand the installed parquet. Thus, you will be able to remove the pile. Then apply a primer to the surface. It should be designed specifically for varnishes, the basis of which is water. Before applying the primer, you need to thoroughly putty all the seams present on the flooring.
Now you can treat the surface with another layer of primer.

After it dries, apply 2 coats of varnish. To do this, you can use a roller or brush. When performing the task, you need to ensure that there are no inflows. At the end, allow the surface to dry.

The time for which the coating dries is 10-12 hours. During this period of time it is forbidden to walk on the floor and lay carpets. In order to provide a full guarantee of the quality of the floor, it is not recommended to touch it for 14 days.
